Staying Calm

Tips to Help You Stay Calm

Having a baby can be a scary thing especially if this is your first time doing it. Many new moms to be often experience what is known as delivery jitters. Hearing people continually telling you to stay calm can get a little nerve wracking so you need to make sure that your surroundings are comfortable and full of positive reinforcements. Be sure to pick and choose only a few people to be in the room with you at any given time. This is important in keeping calm and relaxed.

The trained staff is available whenever you need them during your stay. The most important people who will become extremely important to you in this time are the mid-wife and the doctor delivering your baby. These people are available to you to help ensure a smooth labor, and most hospitals will allow one family member to be with you in the delivery room to be with you. You will probably want to make sure that everyone who will be in the room with you has a positive attitude.

Many first time mothers will notice early pains of labor. Only your doctor can tell if it is true labor or false labor. If it is false labor, you will be sent home until actual labor begins.

Your mid-wife may help and give you things to do until the actual labor starts. Following these directions can prevent any complications during labor. Your doctor will monitor you during labor to ensure everything runs smoothly and there are no complications with you or the baby.

While you are in the hospital, you will be given care around the clock. When you first arrive at the hospital, you will be required to fill out some paperwork and your nurse will start by taking your blood pressure and other vital signs. During your stay and during labor, your vitals will be closely monitored.

In rare cases you may be asked to give a urine sample or a blood sample will be taken. You will undergo a vaginal exam by your nurse or mid-wife and your cervix will be checked. When you start to go into labor, this is known as active labor and this is when baby slowly makes their arrival.

Tips – 3 Steps to Keep Your Sanity!

Toilet training tips can be found in many different places and with the internet more information is available to you now than ever before. So why read this? Because while most toilet training tips focus on how to teach your child, you should also know fine details that can really make a difference.

While the task of toilet training falls on us parents, there are a few things to consider when it comes to keeping your sanity! Here are some toilet training tips that you don’t want to overlook if you want to make it out alive.

Training Pants
When it comes to training pants, get the next size up. This sound silly, but what you want is training pants that are nearly falling off. This makes it a lot easier for your child to take them off and will drastically reduce the accidents. It also allows your child to learn to do it by himself because he won’t constantly need your help taking off the training pants.

If you already bought training pants, don’t despair. You can still go in and cut the elastic until they become a lot looser. Remember, you want them almost falling off!

The Liquids
When toilet training, especially if you are potty training in 3 days, it is best to give your child water. If your child is more accustomed to juice, you can still get around the sugar high by simply watering down the juice they are drinking. The less sugar in their body means a happier, calmer you and in this journey you need all the calm you can get!

The Entertainment
Again if you are potty training in 3 days, this ones very important! You are going to have to be with your child constantly, but you don’t just want him running around in circles until it’s time to visit the toilet again.

When you think entertainment, think quiet toys like coloring, or reading books. Other quiet toys may include quite cars or a game of “Go, Fish!” or a even simple puzzle. Quiet toys like a book can also help them stay on the potty longer. Try to have more than enough quiet toys up your sleeve and you will survive with your sanity intact!

Newborn Baby Clothing

Well I guess baby isn’t really considered a newborn anymore but I wanted to keep the consistency with my other articles. These are the months of real growth and development with regards to mobility. Baby has no doubt found her way around the living room and has realized that there are many other rooms in a house too, and they have all kinds of cupboards, drawers, and other fun stuff to get into!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to ensure that baby is comfortably dressed during these early stages of development. Tight jeans and corduroys really hinder their performance and mobility which can unintentionally affect their self-confidence. Well, maybe I’m exaggerating but if baby can’t seem to stand up one day she certainly won’t realize that it’s her jeans that are in the way.

So for sizes 9-12 months be sure to have plenty of comfortable cotton clothes on hand. I would suggest at least seven 2-piece outfits to ensure you have enough to get you through at least five days without doing laundry. Depending on the size of baby you might find that she’s wearing more of size 12 months around this time. Every baby is different and every clothing manufacturer is different.

Keeping in mind the time of year, I always prefer cotton pants with either a long sleeve or short sleeve bodysuit and then a sweater or sweatshirt to throw over top if it’s cool. Baby continues to crawl during this period so I would suggest that you continue to have plenty of body suits on hand in order to protect her belly. I still prefer long pants over shorts in order to further protect her from carpet burns and splinters (read crawling on deck).

As soon as baby attempts to walk, run out to your local kids shoe store and get her walking boots. It is so important that babies are properly fitted for their first pair of shoes. Said shoes should actually be ankle boots that tie up and they are well worth the price ($50-$100). They are the only type of shoes that will provide your baby with the proper ankle support at this crucial stage. They will also help with that “drunken soldier” stumble she’s got going on! In all honesty, I have seen far too many babies trying to walk wearing cheap, soft, Velcro shoes.

Rear Seat of Sit and Stand Strollers

Rear seats or back seats in most sit and stand strollers can be easily removed. These back seats can be removed from the stroller to allow the stroller to convert to the standing option and suits a toddler. The rear seat is a great option for parents who want to have the choice of whether their toddler will sit or stand. Some sit and stand strollers only have one seat for the smaller child and then the sit/stand platform for the older child.

Purchasing a stroller with the option of two actual stroller seats may be more suitable to some families. Although most of these strollers have a standing platform and a small sitting platform for the older child it may be more suitable for an actual stroller seat for the second child. With the rear seat, that is stroller style, the older child can be placed in the rear seat and be just as safe as the child in the front seat. This may also ease the mind of parents who are worried about the safety of the child sitting on a seating platform of a regular sit and stand stroller.

The back seat also has the option to be removed. Removing the rear seat will convert the stroller into a regular sit and stand stroller. There is still a standing and sitting platform that the older child will be able to use. Overall, choosing a sit and stand stroller with an actual back seat is a feasible option for children who may tire quickly. The sear will comfortably sit the older child and cause no discomfort for the child in the front seat of the stroller.
